Off the Beaten Path!

I have a morning route of places I go in search of the old, vintage, disgarded, broken-down & used up.
Heading into Tomball town that morning I took a short-cut which took me back behind a strip-center of shops where they keep the dumpsters & other back-ally stuff. As I was quickly driving thru trying to get to where I really needed to go I spotted something up ahead.  As I got closer I saw it was 4 chairs.  I got out & quickly inspected them for anything I wouldn't want to be trapped in my vehicle with.  They were pretty dirty but I discovered that the frames were SOLID and that the chairs were surprising HEAVY!!
It took me a while to finally get to them as I wasn't really inspired by their style & the seats needed to be completely redone.  I took them apart & threw away the old seats.  A friend of mine cut & gave me wood to rebuild the seats & I purchased 4 new cushions for the seats.
After some Painting & Recovering with some Ralph Lauren fabric I already had, this is how they turned out!

French Country Table & Chairs with Hutch! -Custom order makeover

A lady contacted me after seeing my french-country painted pieces online & asked if I would makeover her vintage finds.  She loved my combination of refinished dark stained wood along with my country-cream finish.  I was happy to take on her pieces which included a pedestal table with 5 chairs & a hutch.  I'm sharing with ya'll how they turned out & I hope you like the results!
Congratulations Carrie & Greg on the purchase of your new home.

After a few minor repairs this piece was ready for its transformation.  After refinishing the top of the base chest, I decided to refinish the doors as well.  I thought it would "marry" the 2 pieces better & add more richness to their look.  I also painted the backing & insides of the top cabinet a shade darker for a subtle contrast.  I thought this would be a sharp look as I didn't want it to look like plain ol' kitchen cabinets.

Pretty with dishes!

The original hardware was fine so I just put everything back in place.

Ready for dishes & display pieces!

5-CHAIRS were Redone in FRENCH-COUNTRY Style

The table top was refinished & stained dark & the base was hand-painted & finished with a lovely French Wax giving it a subtle satiny glow.  The owners have iron details in their home so I left the metal scrolled pieces original to the piece to go with their decor.
Thanks!! Carrie & Greg.

A Daughter's Gift

A lady contacted me after seeing my painted furniture online about painting a piece that had been in her family.  Her idea was to fix it up and pass it along to her daughter & present it to her in its new state as an adorable birthday gift in March.  Her daughter is quite small now but wanted to keep the vanity simple and classic in a Shabby-Chic style so that it will be a piece that she'll cherish at any age. I delightfully took on the project  and this is how it turned out!
Thanks, Heather. Happy Birthday Savannah!

I used a classic Antique White color & buffed in a French Wax finish for a subtle shine.  Some of its color from oils & stains came through which added a nice Vintage Patina to the over-all look. I also added 4 new sparkling crystal knobs giving this old girl some new beauty.

Some gentle sanding & chipping added to the journey that this piece speaks.

Heather asked about replacing the mirrors which I recommended against.  The nice beveled edge and the silver antiquing was only earned through time which gave dignity & aged-charm to this old girl's new life and merely reflected of time's past.

Lettering in "Love" was added to this vanity as a subtle reminder & message of it's past and future.

This chest was so stunning all around that it called for a Brocade Medallion hand-painted in metallics!

This piece came with shiney brass drawer pulls.  I went through my box of salvaged goodies and put together miss-matched vintage relics with a time-worn rusty patina.  They just add even more character to the piece making it look worldly & traveled.

Brushed gold details

The original small metal pulls were dull & boring with no character.  I found these vintage-look knobs which enhance the small drawers perfectly.  I gently sanded around all the curved details to highlight the beauty of all the wonderful scroll work.

I wanted to keep the inside drawers of the piece its original aged patina.  I thoroughly cleaned them & sealed in its age which was a nice finishing touch to give them a subtle shine and clean feel.
When I picked up this desk it had some stuff rattling around in the drawers.  I opened the bottom drawer to find someones personal items.. boxes of old wax matches from ITALY, and old typewriter eraser with brush, old stamps, keys, several old rulers & old, old negatives of christmas pictures with tree & children!

With a nice Sable Brush I trimmed the edges in an Old White & gently sanded to let the blue come through.
I rubbed in a wonderful French Wax all over the piece which richened the pale dusty blue & gave the paint more dimension along with protecting the Vintage Finish.

Imagine all the old-fashioned Letter writing that went on at this desk!
